#LashTipTuesday: 5 questions you need to ask your lash technician

Whether it's your first time getting extensions or your 100th time, it's always good to make sure that you are correctly informed about the ins and outs of your lash extensions. Here are the top 5 questions that you need to be sure to ask your lash technician before/after your session.

1. How do I care for my lash extensions?

After your appointment, your lash technician will provide you with aftercare advice on keeping your lash extension game healthy.

You should:

You should not:

  • Use oil-based makeup remover

  • Pick at your lashes, as this will damage your natural lashes

  • Apply false lashes on top of your extensions

2. What set should I get if I want natural looking lashes?

You should ask for the 'natural’ set if you want natural-looking lashes. The natural look mimics your natural length and curls while offering a minimal eye-opening effect. Otherwise, if you want lashes that give off a dramatic look, I would suggest choosing the 'hybrid' or ‘volume’ set. Both styles are fluffy and multi-dimensional.

3. How often do I need my lashes touched up or refilled?

I suggest getting a lash fill every 2-3 weeks, depending on how well your extensions are maintained. Some clients may require lash infills earlier than others due to the rate of lash growth and lash shedding.

Never wait for the four-week mark. By that time, you'll need a fresh new set.

4. Can I use mascara if I have lash extensions?

Mascara shouldn’t be necessary if you have a good lash artist. I'd advise you not to use mascara on lash extensions; however, if you want to make your lash line a bit darker, ask your lash tech about thicker extensions (this meaning the actual diameter of the extension) or volume lashes.

Never use oil-based or waterproof mascara as the ingredients can dissolve the bond between lash extensions and natural eyelashes.

5. Will my natural lashes get damaged?

Lash extensions do not damage your natural lashes if applied correctly. Your lash technician will ensure that the application process is done thoroughly and correctly; therefore, no damage would be caused to your natural lash or their growth.

Make sure you don’t rub your eyes or attempt to remove lash extensions by yourself, as this can cause lash loss to your natural lashes and extensions to fall out. Best if you leave it to the professionals!
